Children's Mental Health Week

Children's Mental Health Week aims to highlight the importance of mental health for children and young people. Each year Unlocking Potential focuses on topics that may impact a child’s mental wellbeing.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2023 (Feb 6 -12).

The Theme of this year’s UP Children’s Mental Health week is Express Yourself

What Does Express yourself mean?

It means to show your feelings.

Why is it important for Children’s Mental Health?

When you express your feelings, we can learn and understand more about you. This will help people to support you better, especially when  you need it the most.

How can I express myself?

You can express yourself in lots of different ways; you can talk about how you feel, or draw, or make something to show how you feel. This week Unlocking Potential are inviting you to express your feelings through fun activities and help us to get to know each of you a little better, and maybe even help you to get to know yourself a bit better.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2022 (Feb 7 -13).

We are encouraging children (and adults) to think about identity and what it means for ourselves and others.

We use CMHW to further educate staff and children, celebrate good mental health, and enable children to discover new tools to support their wellbeing. The theme Unlocking Potential has chosen for this year is ‘My Identity Matters’.

Understanding your identity; being proud and curious of who you are, and what makes you different, all contribute positively to your mental health. Your identity is what makes you, you! Our identity is made up of lots of different things, a bit like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Some of these parts can be seen by other people, but there are also parts of identity that people don’t see.

Understanding our identity helps us to…

-Feel confident

– Believe in ourselves

-To make choices that reflect our values

-Understand and respect others, even when they are different from us

-Build good relationships

-Know what you need

-Be assertive
