How We Measure Our Impact

UPLifting Children was designed to improve children’s resilience to their difficult circumstances and reduce the incidents of family-related trauma by targeting attachment, self-regulation and competence. In order to ensure we can achieve the best outcomes for the children, their families and schools, we continue to measure the impact of our work so we can continually improve our model.

Child Outcome Rating Scale

The Child Outcome Rating Scale (CORS) is an outcome measure tool we implemented in 2024. It measures a child’s perception of their wellbeing and progress across key areas of life. The CORS is used within a therapeutic intervention provided to a child and is measured session by session to assess change because of therapy. The rating system uses a four-item scale, areas include: personal or symptom distress (measuring individual well-being); interpersonal well-being (measuring how well the user is getting along in intimate relationships); social role (measuring satisfaction with work/school and relationships outside of home); and overall well-being.

The child is asked to rate different aspects of their life (e.g., feelings, behaviour, and relationships) on a scale, often from 0 to 10, with 0 being the worst and 10 being the best.

Child Session Rating Scale

The Child Session Rating Scale (CSRS) is a feedback measure tool we introduced in 2024. It is typically used in therapeutic or educational settings to gather feedback from children regarding their experience during a specific session or intervention.

It is administered and discussed at the end of every session. The CSRS assesses the child’s perception of the key themes of the therapy session such as their relationship with the therapist, relevance of the content and overall satisfaction. It also helps therapists gauge the child’s subjective experience, adjust their approach, and improve the therapeutic process.

After a therapy session, the child is asked to rate their experience on a simple scale, typically from 0 to 10, with 0 being the worst and 10 being the best.

The child rates aspects such as how well they connected with the therapist, how helpful the session was, and their overall satisfaction.

Experience of Service Questionnaire

Our service users are at the heart of our work, and we value what they have to say about their experience in our programmes. We intend to gather this information using the Experience of Service Questionnaire (ESQ) a tool designed to gather feedback from service users about their experiences within healthcare or support services. It helps organisations understand the quality of the service provided from the perspective of the individuals using it. The ESQ typically focuses on aspects like satisfaction, communication, and overall experience. The goal is to improve services based on the feedback we receive.

Implementing the CORC Best Practice Framework

The CORC Best Practice Framework is a set of guidelines designed to improve how organisations collect, analyse, and use outcome and feedback data in mental health and wellbeing interventions. It ensures that data is gathered consistently, meaningfully, and in a way that enhances the support provided to service users.

At Unlocking Potential, we aim to implement this framework to strengthen our approach to measuring impact. By adopting these best practices, we can ensure that feedback is used effectively to refine interventions, improve service delivery, and empower those we support. This will help us make data-driven decisions that lead to better outcomes for our service users.
