Kind²Mind: One Donation, Double the Difference

Between 14th May - 28th May, we are taking part in the Big Give Kind²Mind campaign. With one act of kindness, make twice the difference in the lives of children struggling with SEMH needs today and help them thrive.

Why we need you

We are seeing an alarming rise in children arriving at school unable to learn, self-harming and expressing suicidal ideation. Data from RCPsych shows a 53% increase of children in mental health crisis needing emergency support since 2019 and school exclusions are at record highs. Children with SEMH needs are experiencing mental distress and are unable to learn or cope in the school environment, having disastrous consequences for them before their lives have even really started, and for the future of our society.

We deliver early, holistic, therapeutic interventions in schools, to children with SEMH needs, that heal trauma, improve mental health and remove barriers to participation and learning. Our Psychotherapy, Occupational, Speech and Language Therapists help children develop social, emotional, communication and fine-motor skills, increasing wellbeing, participation, confidence, peer support and mental health. We restore self-esteem, hope, the capacity to learn and the chance of a happier future.

Campaign Aims

  • To reduce trauma, promote healing and better mental health through 1:1 therapy, play, art, imagination, storytelling and creativity. We want children to feel understood, valued & heard, so their wellbeing, self-esteem and sense of belonging enables them to participate in learning and socialising.
  • To raise awareness of the hidden needs and challenges of children with SEMH needs. Through Parenting Groups, 1:1 parent meetings, psycho-education and Universal support to schools, we provide knowledge and strategies to enhance caregivers capacity to support child development.
  • To improve children’s confidence to participate in school activities. Through Occupational therapy, we improve fine-motor skills needed for handwriting and other tasks, attention, concentration, memory, organisation & sensory challenges so children don’t fall behind, lose confidence or feel ashamed.
  • We want children to be able to communicate their needs with teachers and peers so they can cope at school, participate in activities and build friendships. Our Speech and Language Therapists work with schools to create communication strategies that help children with speech and language difficulties.
  • We want children to develop social skills, emotional literacy, and manage strong feelings, transition and change so they have core, foundational life skills that provide the best chance of good health, wealth and happiness. We do this through our 6 x Talk Time short-term, focused interventions 1:1 or in groups

Understanding the Target

Your donations will help us deliver psychotherapy, OT, SaLT and wellbeing groups to 3,000 children across our partner schools.

All money raised from this amazing campaign will go towards the running of our Schools Programme, and help us increase the number of psychotherapy, OT and SaLT sessions that we deliver to children across our partner schools.  All donations until we reach our target will be matched, One Donation, Double the Difference.

Impact

Our work provides huge social, emotional and mental health benefits for children with SEMH needs in schools across London. Our programme has a profound impact on their ability and capacity to participate in school life, laying the foundations for future learning, making positive and healthy choices that lead to better outcomes. Children, teachers and parents all report significant improvements in the mental health & wellbeing, self-esteem and behaviour of children who participate in our Schools Programme.
